The Alabama Theatre has presented movies and live entertainment in Birmingham since 1927. The venue describes itself as the “Showplace of the South,” with a history that includes concerts, beauty pageants and silent films as well as other performances.

The Historic Alabama Theatre is owned and operated by Birmingham Landmarks, Inc., a nonprofit organization. Its address is 1817 Third Avenue North, across from the Lyric Theatre at 1800 Third Avenue North; the two venues give this stretch of downtown a clear performing-arts focus.

The theatre’s official calendar is the place to check for concerts, movies and live performances. Browse the listings for a show that fits your plans, then follow the event details for its start time and ticketing information.

For advance purchases, the theatre directs guests to Ticketmaster. It warns that it can only honor tickets purchased directly through Ticketmaster, so tickets from individuals or other ticket sites may not be valid. The on-site box office is not open full-time; for ticketed events, it opens 90 minutes before showtime.

Children aged two and younger are admitted free and do not need a ticket. For a nearby venue with a separate performance calendar, the Lyric Theatre Birmingham show and ticket guide covers the theatre across the street.
